Meet Lynn Ivey: The CEO And Founder Of The Ivey

Lynn is the CEO and founder of The Ivey, a not-for-profit memory wellness day center. The Ivey is a daytime solution created for people living with early-stage memory loss or cognitive decline and the entire family of caregivers who love them. Built as an enduring tribute to her mother, who lived with Alzheimer’s disease, and her father, who was her mother’s loving caregiver, The Ivey has been Charlotte’s only memory wellness day center for more than 12 years.

Recognizing that Alzheimer’s is a whole family disease, Lynn envisioned a unique place that provided a solution for whole family support.

As a result of caregiving for both parents and serving nearly 500 families since 2008, Lynn is recognized as a leading expert and advocate in the field of dementia care. Her message of “Hopeless To Empowered” includes understanding the disease, identifying the risk factors for developing the disease and providing steps to successful living as a caregiver.

Married to John Moore, who cared for his late wife who lived with Alzheimer’s for 10 years, Lynn passionately strives to make a difference in the Charlotte community for families with the disease.

Where were you born and where did you grow up? I was born in Raleigh, but moved to Wilmington when I was 3 years old.

Favorite way to spend a weekend or a Sunday afternoon? I enjoy relaxing on weekends with my husband and steadfast companion, John.

What excites you about your work at The Ivey and the contribution you make here? It only takes a minute to remember why The Ivey is so special when I see the joy on members’ faces as they sing familiar songs or when I receive a tearful hug from a family member in appreciation for taking care of their loved one. Each time, it’s like watching and hugging my parents. Indeed, the journey is the reward.
